Intro to Audio Engineering

This entry-level course introduces the essential concepts of music production, including audio post-production, mixing, recording, synthesizers, and file management. Students will gain hands-on experience working with Pro Tools, learning how to use its stock plugins to build a solid foundation in sound creation, editing, and mixing techniques.

Required Hardware

  • MacBook Pro : A reliable, powerful computer is essential for running Pro Tools and handling audio editing software efficiently.
  • Mixing Headphones : High-quality headphones are necessary for accurate audio monitoring during the recording and mixing process. Closed-back options:

    Beyerdynamic DT 770, Audio-Technica ATH-M50X, or similar models, perfect for providing isolation during mixing and recording.

    Open-back options: Sennheiser HD 650, Beyerdynamic DT-770 PRO, or similar models, ideal for an open, natural sound ideal for critical listening.

  • iLok : A USB dongle required for managing and storing licenses for Pro Tools and various plugins used in the production process.

This course is designed for beginners, so if you’ve never worked with audio production software or have little to no experience in audio mixing or recording, we’ll start with the basics. We’ll guide you through the fundamentals, ensuring you have the necessary knowledge to succeed.

To get the most out of this course, you’ll need a MacBook Pro and mixing headphones (closed-back or open-back options). An iLok is also required to manage Pro Tools licenses, and a MIDI keyboard is optional but recommended to enhance your music production experience.
